Week in Review: April 13-17

Several medical specialty boards, including ABIM, ABFM, ABP and ABOG, have adjusted their schedules for MOC and exams, eased deadlines and given credit for COVID-19 experiences during the pandemic. The 2020 HPM initial and OCC Recertification Cognitive Conjoint exams have not been postponed. The Initial Exam will be held August 18-20 through a Prometric testing center and the Recertification Exam will be held August 18-20 through an online at-home proctoring. Pose questions of and learn how your colleagues are managing the COVID-19 pandemic on AAHPM Connect. Review resources on AAHPM’s COVID-19 webpage, which includes several new resource links. Also, JPSM is fast tracking articles that describe palliative care in COVID-19 preparation and response, with emphasis on lessons, insights, or recommendations that would be of immediate value to the field.

AAHPM joined the AMA and specialty and state medical society partners in sending a letter to Congress outlining ways lawmakers should further protect patient access to care and physician practices in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, including through the advance payment program, Medicaid/Medicare payments, direct financial support for practices, support for residents/students, and liability protections for clinicians on the frontlines.
