Week in Review: April 6-10

AAHPM President Rodney Tucker posted a message to AAHPM members this week sharing his thoughts about the current healthcare pandemic and how he is finding much to reflect upon, be grateful for, and be optimistic about. He finds peace in knowing that our role as healers is unwavering and resolute.

AAHPM joined 40+ specialty partners to send a letter to CMS regarding additional flexibilities needed as these groups’ members confront COVID-19. We urged CMS to provide payment parity between telephone E/M codes (99441-99443) and office visit E/M codes during this public health emergency, and to provide guidance to Medicare Administrative Contractors to ensure payment of telephone E/M claims.

Since we were unable to acknowledge the members who recently received their FAAHPM designation at the Annual Assembly, we created this video of President Rodney Tucker honoring each of them for this outstanding achievement. Send a note of congratulations to a new Fellow today.

Elisha Waldman was appointed Associate Editor, Pediatrics to the JPSM editorial board. He has coauthored numerous peer-reviewed academic papers, served as an ad hoc reviewer for several academic journals, written for the New York Times, the Washington Post and Time, and authored, The Narrow Space, describing his experiences with pediatric oncology and palliative care in the Middle East.

AAHPM is in the process of making posters and abstracts from the 2020 Annual Assembly and State of the Science in Hospice and Palliative Care available online. The abstracts from the Assembly were published in the February issue of JPSM; the State of the Science abstracts will be published in the July edition.

AAHPM was awarded additional fellowship grant funding from the YC Ho/Helen and Michael Chiang Foundation for the 2021 and 2022 academic years to support an HPM fellowship program operating a pediatric track within an adult fellowship training program. The Call for Applications will open in June.
