Week in Review: June 14-18, 2021

The Academy is overjoyed to see the new Juneteenth Federal Holiday signed into law. While celebrating the passage of the Bill, we are reminded that we must continue to take action and continue to make meaningful change to achieve health equity.

Abstracts for the 2022 Annual Assembly will open this Monday, June 21 through July 14, 2021. Submissions for this call with include concurrent sessions and scientific and quality improvement papers and posters. Each completed abstract submission for open calls will be assessed a $30 fee to help offset the rising costs of technology. Visit AnnualAssembly.org for submission information for each call.

The sample application for the Fellows of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (FAAHPM) designation is now available to view. The 2021 application will be open for all members who meet the eligibility requirements from July 7 – October 1, 2021. View the application and begin preparing now.

The AAHPM Substance Use Disorder and Diversion (SUDD) SIG is delighted to invite you to their 2021-2022 Webinar Series! Join them for their first live webinar: Managing Non-Medical Opioid Use in Cancer Patients: The MD Anderson Cancer Center Experience, held Wednesday, June 23 from 3-4pm CT.

The AAHPM Fellowship Training Committee will be hosting the first in a series of engaging webinars designed to address the diversity gaps of hospice and palliative medicine fellowship training programs. DEI in Fellowship Recruitment: Application Review and Interviewing, featuring Adam Marks, and Katie Stowers, will take place on June 29 at 12 noon CT.
