Applications are now open to become a Fellow of the Academy. If you are a physician who has been active in the Academy for 5 or more years and board certified in HPM, you can apply to achieve the FAAHPM distinction. This is one of the highest honors the Academy bestows on its physician members. Applications are due September 16.
AAHPM submitted comments in response to a CMS request for ideas on reducing administrative burden for clinician, providers, and patients/families as part of the Administration’s “Patients Over Paperwork” initiative. AAHPM’s Public Policy Committee and Hospice Medicine Council leaders contributed to the Academy’s feedback which addresses certification and service delivery requirements in hospice, LCDs, PA prescribing authority, and restrictions on telehealth.
Phil Rodgers and Phil Peterson represented AAHPM on a call with the West Virginia State Advisory Coalition on Palliative Care. They presented on issues related to the palliative care workforce and sustainable reimbursement for the field. The coalition, established through a 2018 law, is examining barriers to palliative care in the state and working to identify innovative solutions for West Virginians.
AAHPM staff members recently conducted a site visit in San Diego at the venues for the 2020 Annual Assembly and the inaugural State of the Science. The team worked with local experts on initial strategies for creating great experiences at these events. Registration opens in October for both meetings – mark your calendar and plan to attend.
