AAHPM Week in Review: October 15-19

Here’s an update of AAHPM activities during the week of October 15, 2018:

AAHPM worked with the American Bar Association, UCSF Medical School and UC/Hastings Consortium on Law, Science & Health Policy to create Advance Directives: Counseling Guide for Lawyers. It includes guiding principles for advance care planning, a counseling checklist for lawyers, and a set of resources that can be helpful to both the counselor and the client or patient. Please share it with colleagues.

AAHPM sent 6 new and 6 returning scholars and 3 Academy representatives, including AAHPM President Tammie Quest, to the Kathleen M. Foley Palliative Care Research Retreat and Symposium. The purpose of the meeting is to advance the scientific endeavors of new investigators who want to become independent scientists actively involved in palliative care research.

Steve Smith, AAHPM CEO, presented a session entitled, Collaboration Across the Health Care Team: Strategies, Trends & Complicating Factors at the National Medical Specialty Society CEO Summit in Washington DC, sponsored by the American Association of Medical Society Executives (AAMSE). Smith is currently President-Elect of AAMSE.
