AAHPM Week in Review: June 24-28, 2019

AAHPM members can enjoy summer savings with 20% off any product in the AAHPM online store. Don’t delay, purchase your favorite AAHPM product for yourself – or a colleague. Use the code “YAYSUMMER” to receive the discount (through July 18).

Two new HPM workforce reports are now available and provide a profile of new HPM physicians and compare hospice and palliative care pathways for new HPM physicians. As with previous graduates, respondent comments about the specialty were enthusiastic, heartfelt, and optimistic about finding fulfillment in their work in the specialty.

AAHPM unveiled a new resource for fellowship program directors: the HPM Fellowship and Hospice Program Partnerships Guide, which will help guide fellowship programs on how to build robust hospice training experiences by partnering with local hospice programs. This guide and toolkit will be beneficial to both hospice programs seeking HPM fellowship collaborations and HPM fellowships seeking to develop hospice educational partnerships.

Congratulations to the 2019 Hearst AAHPM Leadership Scholars. Applicants were responsible for customizing a leadership development plan aligned with the AAHPM leadership core competencies. Scholars receive funding to support their two-year self-directed leadership and career development plan to catalyze and enhance their emergence and effectiveness as a leader.

Abstracts for the 2019 Supportive Care in Oncology Symposium (October 25-26 in San Francisco) are now being accepted.  This redesigned conference will bridge the gap between important scientific updates and practical applications to transform palliative and supportive care in oncology. Submission deadline: July 9; hotel reservation and early registration deadline: September 18.

AAHPM is pleased to welcome Ginger Marshall as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association, the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation, and the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center. The AAHPM leadership and staff look forward to working with her.

The AAHPM office will be closed on Thursday, July 4 for the Independence Day holiday and will re-open on Friday, July 5 at 8 am CT. Because of the short work week, we will not publish a Week in Review until Friday, July 12.
