AAHPM reached out to the 2024 Emerging Leaders to gain insight into what motivated them to pursue leadership positions and what they find more fulfilling in their experiences. Alexis Morvant, MD MA FAAP has been recognized as one of the exceptional individuals chosen as a 2024 AAHPM Emerging Leader in Hospice and Palliative Care.
Who has most influenced your work and how have they shaped your contributions?
Drs. Tammy Kang, Sarah Friebert, and Joanne Wolfe and Stacey Remke have shaped my career–helping me gain both the courage and insight in continuing to work toward achieving my highest potential as a leader in hospice and palliative care. They tirelessly work toward supporting and elevating early career leaders, especially women.
What is the significance to you of being recognized as a “Emerging Leader” in Hospice and Palliative Medicine?
This recognition is honoring the work of our interdisciplinary team at Children’s Hospital New Orleans: Annie Vaden (social work), Dr. Ashley Autrey, and Stevia Davis (APP), who helped shape and transform pediatric serious illness care in the Deep South. I am immensely proud of their tireless dedication to our field and our incredible patients.
What is your aspiration for the evolution of hospice and Palliative Medicine?
My aspirational dream is for all children and families experiencing serious illness to have equitable access to excellent hospice and palliative care throughout the continuum of a disease trajectory.
