Week in Review: March 29 – April 2

AAHPM joined partners in the Health Professions and Nursing Education Coalition in urging Congress to double current funding of HRSA health professions and nursing workforce programs for FY 2022. In a joint letter to appropriators, the alliance made the case that such increased investment is critical to ensuring the nation is well-equipped to meet evolving healthcare needs and address health inequities.

The Academy continues to endorse the newly reintroduced Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act (S.834 /H.R.2256). AAHPM joined the GME Advocacy Coalition to send letters offering House and Senate bill sponsors support in advancing this bipartisan legislation that would add 2,000 federally-supported medical residency positions annually for seven years. It would also require a study on strategies for increasing health professional workforce diversity.

AAHPM Communities will be hosting their 2021 annual meetings virtually through April. A list of the scheduled upcoming Community meetings can be found in the Events section of AAHPM Connect. Join the conversations!
