Week in Review: April 26-30, 2021

AAHPM has endorsed the newly reintroduced CONNECT for Health Act. This bipartisan legislation would expand telehealth access, including by making permanent certain telehealth flexibilities extended during the COVID-19 public health emergency (such as eliminating geographic and site of service limitations and allowing the face-to-face visit for hospice recertification to be conducted via telehealth). Access a bill summary and list of supporting organizations.

Members of AAHPM’s Value-based Payment Advisory Group – chair Phil Rodgers, past president Janet Bull, and CMO Joe Rotella – represented the Academy in a dialogue with Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee staff. As a past submitter of a payment model proposal, AAHPM was invited to provide perspectives on care coordination within the context of alternative payment models and value-based care.

AAHPM contributed to comments the National Coalition for Hospice and Palliative Care  submitted in response to congressional lawmakers’ invitation for stakeholder feedback on a discussion draft of the Home and Community-Based Services Access Act. The Coalition argued for inclusion of palliative care in the legislation that seeks to establish baseline services/standards for states’ delivery of HCBS and to support workforce development.
