Congratulations to the newly appointed leaders of the Hospice Medicine Council: Ed Martin, Stephanie Patel and Bethany Snider, who join chair Michael Paletta, Ron Crossno, Shaida Talebreza and Patrick White, and the newly appointed leaders of the Academic Palliative Medicine Council: Lynn Flint, Lindy Landzaat, Lynn Bunch O’Neill and Elisha Waldman, who join chair Tom LeBlanc and Jane DeLima Thomas and Winnie Teuteberg.

Call for Hearst AAHPM Leadership Scholarship applications is now open. Through the generous support of the Hearst Foundations, this fund provides scholarships to AAHPM physician members who are interested in participating in leadership development engagement activities. Letters of intent are due by April 15 with full applications due April 30.

A Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) is now available for you to report palliative care quality measures to CMS’s Quality Payment Program, specifically MIPS. Please go to the AAHPM CMS Quality Reporting page for more information. This QCDR is a Palliative Care Quality Collaborative initiative, funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.

AAHPM signed onto the Ad Hoc Group for Medical Research’s letter endorsing recommendations for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). For FY 2020, the group recommends at least $41.6 billion for the NIH, a 6% increase over the FY 2019 program level. VJ Periyakoil, AAHPM’s representative to the Council of Faculty and Academic Societies, requested the Academy’s support.

AAHPM was represented in a roundtable discussion that addressed access to hospice and palliative care for the LGBTQ community and areas of research that can be explored in the future. The event was sponsored by Wurzweiler-Yeshiva and Fordham Universities, the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care, and the National Coalition for Hospice and Palliative Care.

The next Week in Review will be posted March 22nd since we will all be attending the Annual Assembly next week. Hope to see you in Orlando! Safe travels.
